Alice M. Yutzy, born on
October 7th, 1948 in Baltimore MD spent her formative years
living in Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia. From a very young age
Alice enjoyed drawing as a favorite pastime. Graduating from the University
of Maryland, College Park with a degree in Art Education Alice teaches in
the public school system. She also teaches small ceramic workshops. Teaching
Ceramics and Sculpture at LaPlata High School in Charles County Maryland,
she feels fortunate to have the opportunity to teach the subjects she loves
the most.
Alice lives with her
husband and companion Harold DeLauder on 6˝ wooded acres in Charles County
Maryland. Their grown children Brianna and Woody have also chosen careers
in education. An avid nature lover, Alice enjoys her many animal companions
and the peace and solitude of rural Southern Maryland.
Although her primary
media is clay, she has also worked in plaster, stone, mixed media, cast
cement, and lightweight concrete. At this time Alice is pursuing her MFA
degree in Ceramics at Towson University. Her focus is mid to large scale
ceramic pieces with the intention of creating sacred and contemplative
spaces.
Alice values the
critical review process of her professors at Towson as she looks forward to
her thesis exhibit and to working as a full time artist after her
graduation. Alice continues to evolve, allowing her artwork to be an
expression of her inner self.
